Shamwari is an award winning private game reserve located on the East Cape of South Africa. One of the largest reserves in the area, Shamwari is home to the Big Five (lion, leopard, African elephant, rhinoceros and African buffalo) and also operates two Born Free big cat sanctuaries. From the website: “It is the mission of both The Born Free Foundation and Shamwari Game Reserve to promote the conservation of species and the protection of habitat while maintaining a humane and compassionate approach to the welfare of animals.” Pictured: leopard at the Born Free sanctuary, from the Shamwari website.
